Enjoy your play park

The sign at the entrance to the freshly built playground in Fauquier invites kids in, whether they’re drawn to balancing on log beams, scaling a wee climbing wall or leaping from log to log.

With Trust support, the Fauquier Community Club installed the park close to the community hall and next to the outdoor pavilion that it built in 2022. It added short trails on the nearby hillside and tucked a cozy bench into the brush.

As with all the club’s projects, the goal is to unlock the potential of people in the area, enhance the quality of life in this rural location, and sustain a strong community. In this way, the playground is a great example of how the Trust helps Basin communities take action to continue to be incredible and vibrant places.

Locals—as well as visitors to Fauquier—can now access a recreational spot that is interesting and engaging for a broad range of people. Kids, of course, are the main target. Here, children of all ages and abilities can play, learn and socialize, which are vital to healthy childhood development.

“The structure will enhance the physical, mental and social development of children, who gain an outdoor activity within their own community,” says Chris Sikora, Club Director.

Adults benefit, too. “It also complements the pavilion, as their proximity means that parents can enjoy social events and gatherings while easily monitoring their children,” Sikora says. The club’s long-term aim is to enable residents to experience a wide range of social, leisure, educational, cultural and recreational activities. With its welcoming beams and boulders, the playground is a kid-sized leap in the right direction.
